Phoenix Mercury's Alyssa Thomas mum on arm injury, Sevgi Uzun has fractured nose
Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas declined to comment on her arm injury, while guard Sevgi Uzun has a fractured nose and will play in Friday's game wearing a mask.

SEATTLE — Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas declined to comment on the left arm injury she suffered in Wednesday’s win, while Mercury guard Sevgi Uzun said she has a fractured nose.
Thomas checked out of Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks at the 2:05 mark in the third quarter and was seen favoring her left arm. She headed toward the locker room with a towel wrapped around her arm, but returned to the game and played the final 9:06, scoring eight of her 19 points in the final period.
“We don’t need to talk about it. We’re good,” Thomas told Desert Wave Media at Friday’s shootaround.
Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts also did not provide an update on Thomas’ arm after Wednesday’s win.
“I don’t (have an update),” Tibbetts said after Wednesday’s game. “It sounds like everything is o.k. I didn’t hear much.”
Thomas participated with the rest of the team during Friday’s shootaround and was not listed on the injury report.
Phoenix Mercury guard Sevgi Uzun has fractured nose
Uzun told Desert Wave Media she has a fractured nose but will wear a protective face mask and play in Friday’s game against the Seattle Storm.
She said she had a CT scan on Thursday that confirmed the fracture. The Mercury point guard was not listed on the injury report and participated with the rest of the team during Friday’s shootaround.
Uzun began the shootaround not wearing a mask, but was later fitted for a mask and took some shots with her mask on.
“Well there was a little fracture, as you can see it’s bruised and swollen, but I have this mask, so I will wear it in the game, and then try to protect myself from another hit,” Uzun said.
Uzun checked out of Wednesday's game with 28 seconds left in the first half after taking a hit from Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum and went to the locker room for an evaluation.
“It was when Plum rejected the screen, I guess,” Uzun said. “I tried to stop it and her head kinda hit my nose, and I felt it, so I just needed to be walked (to the locker room).”
When the second half began, Uzun was still in the locker room, but she retuned to the game wearing a mask at the 4:05 mark in the third quarter.
Uzun had two points, two assists, two rebounds, a steal and a turnover on Wednesday. She played 7:02 before taking the hit and 7:14 after returning to the game in the second half.
“Definitely uncomfortable,” Uzun said of wearing the mask. “It’s not easy to play with because you can’t see a lot of angles, and I don’t like having stuff on my body anyways, so a mask is definitely not my favorite, but I’m trying to adjust (to) taking the shots and stuff because every time I take the shots, I’m hitting the mask, but it’s good.”
Sevgi my favorite shark as always🦈🙏
Thanks for asking AT about her wrist!
