Report: Kevin Durant missed first 2 days of USA training camp
Durant has a minor calf strain and has not participated in full team drills and scrimmages, according to The Athletic.
Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant missed the first two days of USA basketball’s training camp for the 2024 Paris Olympics due to a minor calf strain, according to Shams Charania. Durant’s injury is not serious, USA coach Steve Kerr said.
“Durant has done light individual work on the side, but has not participated in full team drills and scrimmages — including the scrimmage against the Select Team won by Team USA, 45-39,” Charania wrote.
Charania added: “His status for the team’s first exhibition game Wednesday against Canada is in question, the sources said.”
The injury is not expected to sideline Durant for the long term, Kerr said.
Durant’s issue with a calf strain is well-known. In the 2019 NBA playoffs, he sustained a calf strain in Game 5 of the conference semifinals. Later, he tore his Achilles tendon in the NBA Finals and missed all of the 2019-20 season.
Durant this past season with the Suns played 75 games, his most since the 2019 season with the Warriors.
“If some shit’s going to happen, it’s going to happen,” Durant said in the preseason about his health. “You try to prevent me from being injured or being out there, then I honestly don’t know what good that does, you know? Just let me play. Whatever happens, happens. We just trust that we’ll figure it out from there.”
Team USA will play its first game of the Olympics July 28 versus Serbia. Charania said “There is no concern right now Durant, or anyone else, would need to be replaced.”
