The Phoenix Mercury must improve their 3-point defense
The Mercury are allowing a league-worst 9.0 3-pointers from their opponents on a league-worst 26.9 attempts per game.
Coming out of the Olympic break, Phoenix Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts said defensive rebounding and limiting 3-point attempts by opposing teams are the two areas in which the Mercury can improve the most.
It’s no secret the Mercury have struggled with their defensive rebounding at times this season. Tibbetts’ group averages 25.5 defensive rebounds per game which slots them seventh in the league.
Combined with their 6.7 offensive rebounds per game, the Mercury are the second-worst rebounding team in the league at 32.2 per game.
However, the Mercury’s 3-point defense is where they have severely fallen short this season.
